After many years as an occupational therapist and educator, I completed a PhD in anthropology -- a degree that made a lot of sense to me because of my interest in the ordinary everyday things that people do. My focus was work, and my dissertation was on self-employed people making crafts and selling them at local craft fairs. More recently I have been studying contemporary quilt making as a means of looking at occupation from the individual to global level. My most recent research started while consulting on a qualitative component for a research project on the sensory experiences of autism. I am now working with data from interviews that are part of that study.
