Latin American films

The Cal State Long Beach Latin American Film Studies Series continues, with one more film scheduled for next Thursday night, Oct. 29: El Viaje De Teo. This film may be of interest to anyone studying migration/immigration issues. Tonight we saw the 1940 Argentine film Cita En La Frontera. B/W tango genre film in which the "bad girl" entertainer doesn't die and actually gets her guy in the end. How refreshing, and how appropriate for teaching about gender in different countries and times. These ar… Continue

Hello Dr. Kelly,
I'm not sure if there is a way to add captions to photos. You can add a title and "tags" to indicate location and subject matter. I've got to get back on here and update things. Thanks for reminding me! Hope all is well- Sarah

Thank you...it was a project I embarked...when I went to study Ayurvedic medicine there....it was a wonderful experience. I remember you visited Kerala, how did you love it?

Well . . . it hasn't really been useful for me so far, other than a glorified social networking site, to be honest. I thought it was a great idea when the site was first created, and I thought it would be a good way to maintain educational and professional ties, but I've been a bit disappointed on that front.

I haven't spent much time connecting with people other that a quick search for familiar names. On the surface this network is more of a place to connect with academic acquaintances than a tool for doing applied anthropology, which hopefully will change in the future. Funny you mentioned SWAA, my first academic presentations as an undergraduate and graduate student at CSUF was at SWAA. ET (Jacob) Pandian, one of my mentors at CSUF, was very active in SWAA back in the late 80s and 90s.

Ah yes, I do remember our brief visit at the AAAs (I also don't remember which one). I'm presenting more on Madagascar and some work in Kentucky at the AAAs on a panel discussing cognitive anthropology's contribution to environmental anthropology. Will you be going/presenting?

Hi Hillarie, Thanks for the comment. I'm still figuring out how to manage keeping up with these sites. The tea company has been really fun! I do not commute to San Jose--I actually work/live in Monterey full time right now.

Oh and another thing, I would just do this over the phone, it shouldn't take more than about 15 to 30 minutes depending on how long you want to spend on answering my questions. Once again, this is GREATLY appriciated!

Yes, I do have a deadline, it is the 4th of November. If you could get back with me on my email that would be awesome! Thank you so much for responding!

I haven't gone here for a long time, but I hear from the anthro students via facebook and linkedin more often. At least sfaa site is exclusively for anthros. I get notified by email if I have a comment, otherwise I would never know. but again it's just familiarity. Maybe they should discuss if it can be linked to the more popular sites. :)
